Simple Way Of Getting Thousands Of Twitter Followers

Getting targeted traffic to your website/blog can be really difficult. The explosion of Twitter now means you’ve access to a massive audience, a large number of which will be interested in what you’ve got to say.

I write this article presuming you’ve already got set up with your Twitter account and know the basics of how to post tweets. Just a quick note on a few things about Twitter, avoid putting an auto-response on your account when someone decides to ‘Follow’ you. I get hundreds of DM’s (Direct Messages) with people trying to get you to visit their porn site or wanting to give me advice on how to make $1,000 a day for doing nothing. Auto-Responses on Twitter has pretty much turned into spam.

My other bits of advice on Twitter posts, don’t always post links to your own website post on things related to your industry that people would find interesting. And always leave enough space for people to RT (Re-Tweet) your post, if you get someone to RT your post it helps drive traffic to your site. For me I have to leave 11 characters so people can Re-Tweet me (RT@avenue61).

So now to explain how to get lots of Targeted Twitter Followers:

Step 1 – Create an account with bit.ly (http://bit.ly). Whenever you want to make a Twitter post that has a link to your site on it you visit your bit.ly account. Shorten the website URL using the tool on the site and create the post. This will tell us how many people click on your post once you’ve submitted it.

Step 2 – So now you’ve got you Twitter post on your Twitter profile. Now you need to start finding people to follow. Click on ‘Find People’ and in the search box type in something related to your website, for me my first one was ‘Indie Music’. This brought up IndieMusicU, you then click on their profile and click on their Followers (they’ve about 10,400)

Step 3 – Now you have a list of people who are targeted as they are following a Profile that is related to what you do, so in all likely-hood they will be interested to Follow you as well. Near the top of the Twitter page you have two options ‘Expanded’ and ‘List’ choose ‘List’ and then start clicking the link to follow their Followers. Once you’ve hit the 1000 follow limit for that day you need to note the page of Followers your on by using the URL in the address bar of your browser. Email this to yourself or something.

*You are limited to follow 1000 people in a 24 hours period on Twitter.

Step 4 – Now you’ve followed 1000 people, takes about 15mins to do that. Your own profile will look a bit like this – Following 1000 – Followers 0. Over the 24 hours you can expect to see anywhere between 100-150 people follow you back. Many of whom will click on your Twitter Post that we created in Step 1. It’s now up to you how often you carry out this process maybe every day or every few days etc. Giving people enough time to follow you back as most people don’t use Twitter every day.

Step 5 – We need to now balance up the Following to Followers ratio. Visit (dossy.org/twitter/karma/) and click Sign In With Twitter. Then press ‘WHACK!’ It may take about 5-10mins for the program to find your profile. It lists all the people you are following and who follow you.

You need to choose ‘Only Following’ from the drop down list this shows you the people you have not followed you back and are of no use to you in terms of getting Traffic to your site. Now go to the bottom of the screen and click ‘Check All’ and then ‘Bulk Unfollow’

Step 6 – Give it another 5mins and you will notice your Twitter profile now shows Following 150 Followers 150 which is much more respectable. So we now need to Follow another 1000 as 24 hours have passed and Twitter will let us start following again. Using the link that you emailed to yourself in Step 3 go to that and it brings you to the page of Followers for the other Profile, go to that bottom of that page and click next a couple times to make sure you don’t Follow people you tried the day previous.

Step 7 – Now just keep repeating this process!

It’s a guaranteed way to get lots of targeted Followers and at the moment I gain 100-150 extra Followers a day and each of my Twitter posts get about 30 clicks to my website which will grow more and more once I get more Twitter Followers.

The 0 To 1000 Twitter Followers In 5 Days Challenge

At the time of writing this article, I am pretty much a complete Twitter novice. I have about 3 followers, and I’ve made 3 introductory Tweets. However, I am not a complete internet marketing novice, and I can see the potential Twitter has to help build my business.

But in order to build a business, don’t you need a lot of followers? And from what I can make out, getting Twitter followers is a time consuming business. You basically have 3 options.

Option 1 – Broadcast your Twitter page to your public following. This is why celebs and internet ‘gurus’ can rack up a massive number of followers in a short period of time. They basically tell the world, “Hey, I’ve got a Twitter page, check it out”. And because they have such a large public following, they can put together a massive number of followers on Twitter easily. I don’t have this luxury.

Option 2 – Spend a couple of ours making tweets (tweeting) every day. If you are an active tweeter (twitterer? I’m not up on all the Twitter lingo yet!) then it stands to reason that more people will stumble across your page, and eventually you’ll build a following. Unfortunately, I don’t have a couple of spare hour per day to do this.

Option 3 – Manually follow and unfollow twitter users. From what I can gather, every time you follow somebody on Twitter, there is about a 1 in 4 chance that they will follow you back. So you’d need to follow about 4000 people to get your following up to 1000, right? But there are two problems with this.

The first problem is that new Twitter members are only allowed to follow a maximum of 1000 people. Once you get to 1000 followers yourself you can then follow approximately 10% more than are following you. Get it?

The second is that finding and adding people on Twitter is a time consuming process. It’s not a difficult task, but time consuming. Who has hours per day to manually add followers, and then manually remove people that don’t follow you back? I don’t.

This task can be outsourced, but this is a cost you shouldn’t have to bear. Especially if you are trying to build a small business on a relatively tight budget.
